Fred and Vimy Tree
On Friday April 21, 2022, Earth Day, Macdonald Consolidated School students planted a Vimy Oak Tree sapling in the garden in front of the school. Arborist Jim Landry gave a presentation to the students on the history of the Vimy Oak Trees on how they came to be in Canada and how they were repatriated back to Vimy. The Royal Canadian Legion Peninsula Branch 62 and Ladies Auxiliary members were invited to attend along with peninsula residents who had a family member that participated in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. RCL President Fred Healey and Gr. 3 student Rylan assisted in the planting of the Vimy Oak sapling which was marked with a small wooden cross.
